Questions about Prenatal Ultrasound and the Alarming Increase in Autism – by Caroline Rodgers

Questions about Prenatal Ultrasound and the Alarming Increase in Autism – by Caroline Rodgers.

Above is one of three articles I found that raise some interesting questions concerning ultra sound.  I would love to hear your feedback after reading them.  After you finish reading the article you can link onto the next two articles  at the bottom of the page.  Ultrasound: More Harm than Good, by Marsden Wagner and Ultrasound: Weighing the Propaganda Against the Facts, by Beverly Lawrence Beech… Knowledge is Power… I would suggest that you make copies of these articles and bring them with you on your next OB visit, remember, they don’t know everything, just what their taught or told.

Just another little blurb I found because I am always looking for more info on the subject.

Ultrasound and Autism Link Found

Search Phrase: ultrasound/autism

Since the late 80’s, Ultrasounds and Autism have both been on the rise. I personally had numerous ultrasounds due to my Gestational Diabetes. (My 3 and half year old son has been dx autistic.) I found this article to be very interesting.
WASHINGTON – Exposure to ultrasound can affect fetal brain development, a new study suggests…. When pregnant mice were exposed to ultrasound, a small number of nerve cells in the developing brains of their fetuses failed to extend correctly in the cerebral cortex….Rakic’s paper said that while the effects of ultrasound in human brain development are not yet known, there are disorders thought to be the result of misplacement of brain cells during their development.
“These disorders range from mental retardation and childhood epilepsy to developmental dyslexia, autism spectrum disorders and schizophrenia,” the researchers said….Our study in mice does not mean that use of ultrasound on human fetuses for appropriate diagnostic and medical purposes should be abandoned,” said lead researcher Pasko Rakic, chairman of the neurobiology department at Yale University School of Medicine.
However, he added in a telephone interview, women should avoid unnecessary ultrasound scans until more research has been done.
Their report is in Tuesday’s edition of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Hmmmm…..

Simply put, ultrasound changes the way cells grow. Ultrasound has been linked to a number of things, but the one I want to focus on here is autism.

For those of you who are curious, I pulled this information from a magazine called “Pathways to Family Wellness”. Other obstetrical procedures linked to autism include: mercury in pregnancy, including the Rhogam shot, flu shot, dental fillings, and fish. Other procedures linked to autism: induction, epidurals, restricted laboring positions, forceps and vacuum extraction, C-sections, and umbilical cord clamping. Of all these things, ultrasound was at the top of the list. Posted by Donna Ryan
